Kobe Bean Bryant is one of the best known American professional basketball players, all for the right reasons until 2003 where he became big headline news. The famous basketball player, who plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, was born in 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was always destined to play professional basketball after he took up the sport at the age of three.

Bryant who has won five NBA championships with the Lakers could not get enough of basketball as he was growing up, and found his whole family was behind him and his dreams of becoming a professional. His granddad would send him videos of basketball games and his love of the game continued to grow.
He started to get recognition during an amazing high school career at Lower Merion High School where his coach knew he was something special.

After a long and successful career, things started to go wrong for Bryant. In 2003, he was accused of sexual assault after having sex with a hotel employee in Edwards, Colorado, a charge that he denied. The case was dropped by prosecutors in 2004 after his accuser refused to testify, something the media claimed was suspicious. A civil suit was later filed which was settle out of court, causing the media and fans alike to question what really went on. The accusation cost Bryant a lot of money, not only did he have to settle out of court, the claims caused his reputation to go downhill where he lost a number of contracts which included McDonald’s and Nutella.

Kobe refused to give up, and his career started to get back on track and sponsors started to come back to him, seeing him as a viable investment to help promote their products.

Kobe Bryant has won a number of awards over the years, which includes All-Star MVP Award four times (2002, 2007, 2009, and 2011). In 2012, at 34 years and 104 days, became the youngest player in league history to reach 30,000 career points, received a well-deserved honor of being one of the 35 Greatest McDonald’s All Americans.
